Special needs and Inclusion at Elmhurst
We have an Assistant Head Teacher for SEN and Inclusion who is also the named office for child protection and designated teacher for looked after children - Mrs Jane Nash, please make an appointment to see her to discuss any of these areas.
At Elmhurst we welcome all children from the community and offer many skills and facilities to enable all children to be included in the life of the school. We have a sensory room, mobility room, hygiene and medical room. All of our teaching and non teaching staff receive specialist training in order to support our children's additional needs.
We pride ourselves in our caring and inclusive approach to learning. Inclusion is a dynamic process which is ever changing. Children are educated in and out of the classroom, depending on the lesson. All of our children are included in the RML programme and learn in small groups or in a one to one situation.
We operate a 'Person Centred' style in which children are fully involved in all aspects of their learning and adults are used flexibly and according to their skills and strengths.
We have strong links with outside agencies and receive ongoing training in all areas of special needs. We run termly parent workshops and coffee mornings for children with SEN.
We arrange trips and visits each term and include all children in class visits, including the seaside, museums, theatre trips etc.
